Modern Surrey country garden

The garden of this former dairy was not the field it looked on first inspection but was in fact the old stock holding yard. Beneath a thin layer of turf lay huge concrete drains and channels that were an unwelcome surprise when the build started. Following extensive excavations the client’s dream of a modern country garden with a curvilinear design was realised. The massed perennials established quickly and a line of tall grasses was planted to conceal the garden from dog-walkers whilst the native hedge developed. Hiding the boundaries with planting draws the eye to the borrowed landscape beyond, making the garden feel larger.
